Element aus Gruppe 4 des Periodensystems, Protonenzahl 104, Halbwertszeit des Isotops 261Rf 1,1 Minute.

Rutherfọrdium
 
[razər-; nach E. Rutherford] das, -s, chemisches Symbol Rf, zu den Transactinoiden gehörendes chemisches Element mit der Kernladungszahl 104 (Namenfestlegung der IUPAC 1997). Die Priorität der Entdeckung wurde der Arbeitsgruppe um G. N. Fljorow zugesprochen, die das Element erstmals 1964 in Dubna durch Beschuss von Plutonium mit Neonkernen künstlich herstellte. Weitere Isotope wurden 1969 durch A. Ghiorso und Mitarbeiter erzeugt, von denen das Isotop 261Rf, ein Alphastrahler, mit 66 s die längste Halbwertszeit aufweist. Heute sind zehn Isotope des Elements bekannt.
